Financial Planning

“A man without a vision is a man without a future. A man without a future will always return to his past.”

Financial planning is the process of setting and achieving financial goals through the management of one’s financial resources. It involves assessing your financial situation (debt, assets and income) and then identifying financial objectives, and creating a roadmap to reach those objectives within a specified timeframe.

Why do you need a financial planner?

  • Did you know that you can reduce your personal tax liability by donating money to your spouse?
  • Or that if your marginal income tax rate is above 30%, through an endowment wrapper you can reduce it to 30%?
  • You’re probably aware of how much equity or offshore exposure you are allowed to have in your retirement product?
  • Or what prospect theory is and how it affects your personal financial behaviour.
  • Maybe you already know that you can minimise future estate duty by buying growth assets in an entity rather than in your individual capacity?
  • Or what makes a Will valid or not?

These are examples of what we as Financial planners know, and more importantly how it can be implemented in your financial situation to maximise growth and minimize costs and taxes.

What sets us apart
from the average advisors?

Most advisors in South Africa have Category I licences, which means they are not qualified investment managers that can actively manage your investments.

Consequently, they require you to sign off on every action done on your behalf.
This may sound good from a control perspective – but it requires far more admin from you and significantly reduces the flexibility needed to effectively respond to market dynamics.

We have a Category II licence which means we have the qualifications and expertise to actively manage your investments, and make decisions on your behalf within the confines of a mandate that you sign with us. This frees up your time spent on admin, but also enables us to make investment management effective and efficient.

FAQ’s

What is financial planning?

Financial planning is the process of setting and achieving personal financial goals through the proper management of your finances.

What fees do you charge?

Fees charged depend on the products/services rendered. A comprehensive financial planning analysis fee is charged if we are not asked to plan but not manage the assets. However if the management of your assets is entrusted to us, this fee is waived. For investments we charge either an annual advice or management fee as a percentage of assets under management – usually 1%. This fee depends on size of investments placed with us as well as the type of product.

Why do I need a financial planner?

A financial planner can help you make informed decisions about your finances and achieve your long-term financial goals, whilst providing you with deep insight as to how financial products work, how they are structured and how to best utilise them for your financial success.
